Hundreds Of Cars Stranded On Route 58, Grapevine Remains Open
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of cars were stranded on Route 58 in Bishop Tuesday night due to heavy snow.
Snowplows were being rushed to the roadway, which drivers heading to and from Southern California often use to avoid the Grapevine, which remained open as of 10:30 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol may still be forced to shut down Interstate 5 north of Castaic through the Grapevine due to blowing snow and icy conditions.
KCAL9's Juan Fernandez reported from Frazier Park, where snow was falling as of 11 p.m.
A winter storm warning will be in effect until at least 10 a.m. Wednesday for Los Angeles County mountain areas due to rain and snow that's expected to pummel much of the Southland.
Hazardous winter driving conditions can also be expected along the 14 Freeway; the Tejon and Soledad passes; Pearblossom Highway; and Highway 33 in Ventura County, according to the National Weather Service.
Three to six inches of snow can be expected at elevations of 3,000 feet, and six to 10 inches of snow can be expected above 4,500 feet.
Gusty winds of up to 60 mph are expected to continue through Wednesday evening.
