Windy Weather May Have Overturned 2 Big Rigs In Sun Valley, Industry
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Gusty winds may have been to blame for two separate, non-injury big rig crashes temporarily blocked lanes in Sun Valley and the City of Industry Monday afternoon.
A big rig truck overturned on the Penrose offramp in Sun Valley of the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway just before noon. The truck also blocked the left lane, California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada said.
A SigAlert was declared at 12:24 p.m. and will likely remain in effect until at least 5 p.m., according to Posada, who also said the driver was uninjured.
Just two hours later, a big rig hauling vegetables overturned and spilled its load of bok choy, leaving all the westbound lanes blocked on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Industry, Posada said.
A SigAlert was issued at 1:13 p.m. The westbound lanes were reopened to traffic just after 3 p.m..
Winds of up to 60 mph were forecast for Monday afternoon, with the strongest winds predicted for the Grapevine on Interstate 6, where they could be as strong as 75 mph, according to the Weather Service.
