Wilmington Doctor Arrested After Pain Medication Probe
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Wilmington doctor suspected of prescribing narcotics to patients with no medical need for them has been arrested.
John Dimowo, 55, was booked Tuesday at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's San Dimas Station, authorities say.
The Los Angeles Times reports the physician was arrested on seven counts of illegally prescribing narcotics "and other widely abused drugs".
He was released Tuesday night at approximately 9:10 p.m. on $60,000 bail.
An investigation into the doctor began last year after the Medical Board of California received complaints about Dimowo, according to the Times.
The outlet reports undercover agents posing as patients alleged Dimowo wrote prescriptions for Vicodin, Norco, Adderall and Xanax without legitimate need.
Dimowo's attorney, Steve Meister, said his client would emerge from "this so-called case unscathed, as he deserves to".
