William Shatner Creates Tribute To Help Memory Of Leonard Nimoy 'Live Long And Prosper'
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of "Star Trek" fans recently participated in a social media tribute that was paid in respect to legendary actor Leonard Nimoy.
Actor William Shatner originally made a request on Aug. 1 for his Twitter followers to capture photos of themselves making the "Live Long And Prosper" sign as part of an undisclosed project.
I need everyone's help. Take a selfie of you doing the LLAP sign and email the photo to NIMOYTribute@gmail.com pic.twitter.com/b2gTMftn7J

On Sunday, Shatner shared the finished product, which included more than 6,000 images of fans.
Why did I ask for all those #LLAP selfies? For a @gishwhes task as a tribute to Leonard. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/3NQZ5siINe — William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) August 9, 2015
The photos were compiled into a mosaic of Nimoy as Mr. Spock, his most famous role.
According to Shatner, the project was created as part of a task for "Gish-Wishes," which is an annual scavenger hunt that is run for charity.
His role in the project was appropriate as he played Captain Kirk on the television series alongside Nimoy's half-human, half-Vulcan character.
The mosaic has been submitted to the Guiness Book to be considered for a world record.
Nimoy, 83, died on Feb. 27 at his home in Los Angeles.
According to his son, Adam Nimoy, the actor passed away as a result of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
