Wildomar Brush Fire Threatens 6 Homes
WILDOMAR, Calif. (CBS) — About 200 firefighters worked overnight to contain a 25-acre blaze burning on the slopes above Wildomar, according to a Cal Fire-Riverside County captain.
The Rock Fire was considered 25 percent contained as of 5 a.m. on Friday, Cal Fire-Riverside County Capt. Jim Brown said.
"It did burn throughout the night, burning heavy fuel in the fire's interior," Brown said. No structures were immediately threatened by the fire, he added.
"There were initially four structures near Wildomar that were threatened, but that was mitigated before midnight," Brown said.
Crews established a perimeter between the fire and homes in Wildomar Thursday night, but the blaze was continued to burn back into the hills to the southwest, authorities said.
Wildomar is between Murrieta on the south and Lake Elsinore to the north. The slopes where the fire was burning are near the Cleveland National Forest.
