Power Restored To Tens Of Thousands In South Bay
TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — Power was restored Sunday to tens of thousands of Southern California Edison customers following a widespread outage.
The power outages were experienced throughout much of the South Bay starting at 7:06 a.m., authorities said.
"It appears that a transformer either blew or power lines went down which caused the transformer to blow in the area of 190th [Street] and Crenshaw [Boulevard]," Torrance police Lt. Devon Chase told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz. "There was no traffic accident involved and we still don't know what the cause of that was."
Authorities said the outages were experienced in Torrance, South Redondo Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, San Pedro, and the Rolling Hills Estates. For several hours, more than 115,000 customers were left without power.
As of 1:30 p.m., Edison reported that power had been restored to all but 11 customers in Torrance.
