Whitman Vows Comeback In Calif. Governor Race
WESTLAKE VILLAGE (AP) — Down in the polls, Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has begun the final week of her campaign by rallying supporters and promising victory on Nov. 2.
"We are going to win this," the former eBay CEO told hundreds of supporters gathered poolside Monday at a hotel in Westlake Village, an upper-income community about 40 miles west of downtown Los Angeles.
Two polls over the past week have shown her trailing Democrat Jerry Brown, but Whitman says she is convinced voters will make her California's first female governor.
She is pitching her message to cut state spending, create private-sector jobs and improve public education.
She urged members of the audience to promote her candidacy with their friends and staff phone banks for her over the final days.
