Wheelchair-Bound Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Identified, Had History Of Collisions
FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — The wheelchair-bound man who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Fullerton was identified Wednesday, and police say he had a history of being struck by cars.
Marc Borgfield, 49, of Buena Park, was struck by a vehicle just before midnight Monday at 2613 Orangethorpe Ave. and thrown 170 feet, according to Fullerton police.
Borgfield appeared to have been outside a crosswalk when he was struck, Fullerton police Sgt. Jeff Stuart said. There are no known witnesses, but investigators hope someone will spot the suspect vehicle and come forward.
The vehicle was described as a 1991-1994 white Ford Explorer with significant damage to the front center grill area between the headlights, and was last seen going west on Orangethorpe.
Borgfield was struck by a vehicle near the same location on March 3, Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel said. At that time, his blood-alcohol level was .36, or more than four times the legal limit for driving, she said.
He was also struck by another vehicle in Buena Park in March 2008, and was drinking prior to that collision as well, Hamel said.
It's not known if Borgfield had been drinking prior to Monday's crash, Hamel said.
