What You're Doing This Week: January 2
Another year, another chance to experience Los Angeles. From the hottest place to watch the Rose Parade to seeing ancient Chinese tombs, this week is full of exciting events throughout Southern California. If seeing ancient tombs does not tickle your fancy, have some nifty times at the Improv or cheer on some of Southern California's most beloved basketball teams.
Monday, January 2
Indulge in a scrumptious champagne brunch in the Sofia Ballroom overlooking Colorado Boulevard, while enjoying the spectacular views of the Rose Parade floats. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Pasadena Playhouse, The Levitt Pavilion and Union Station Homeless Services. Reservations can be made between 7am-11am for prices ranging from $100-$175. If you miss that opportunity, you can still wander through the floats after the parade - tickets are available online.
Watch two of Southern California's most beloved basketball teams play at the UCI Bren events center. Tickets are available at the box office from 10am-5pm or by phone at 949-824-5000. The game starts at 7pm and parking is available in the Mesa parking structure for $10.
Tuesday, January 3
Come prepared to laugh and have a blast at the Comedy Juice College night, where some of the best stand-ups in comedy will perform. Tickets are $15 per person, and the entertainment begins at 8pm. Show your college ID for a discount at the box office. The club has a minimum age requirement of 18 years or older.
Wednesday, January 4
The city of Irvine is hosting a healthy food drive collecting "healthy" canned food items for senior citizens and the Irvine Pantry Health Services. This is an enjoyable activity to participate in by helping to give back to others in the community. Food can be delivered all week at the Irvine Civic Center or various drop-off locations throughout the city of Irvine. Delivery drop-off times are between the hours of 8am-5pm. Thursday, January 5
Come see the legacy of china in this elaborate exhibit at the Bowers museum. Visitors will have an opportunity to see the tombs and temples that housed some of China's most powerful leaders. Ticket pricing starts at $12. The museum hours are from 10am-4pm.
Friday, January 6
Enjoy ice skating under the beautiful palm trees at the lavish Irvine Spectrum center. Ice skating sessions are available between 11am-10:45pm. Pricing is $14 for adults and $12 for children. Toddlers are $12 each with skate rental included. Helmets are available at no extra cost and skate rental can be purchased for $2 each.
Saturday, January 7
It is the opening night of this murder mystery dinner and show at the Avila Terrace Theatre. Tensions will run high as the actors will create a mystery show during the three course meal. The suspects will serve your dinner while acting out a 4 act mystery in-between each course. Tickets are available online for $69 per person
Sunday, January 8
Looking for a unique way to play golf? Huntington Beach is home to the best disc golf course in Southern California. Frisbee golf is a mix between Frisbee playing and traditional golf. Located on the west side of Goldenwest Street across from the sports complex, the course begins right at the opening of the parking lot. Prices are $2 per person the weekends with $2 disc rentals. Snacks are also available for under $2.
