What Caused Woman In Beverly Hills To Jump Naked Off 15-Story Roof?
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Detectives are still trying to determine why an unidentified woman jumped to her death Wednesday morning in Beverly Hills.
The 53-year-old woman leaped from the roof of the Camden Medical Arts building about 10 a.m.
The 15-story building is located in the 400 block of Camden Drive.
Cellphone images and cellphone video of the tragedy circulated on Wednesday. The unidentified woman threatened to jump for more than three hours, according to authorities.
She was declared dead after being taken to Cedars-Sinai.
Beverly Hills Police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino said the woman was despondent and refused to negotiate with a crisis team that had arrived on scene prior to her jumping.
The woman had undergone an undisclosed medical procedure on Tuesday night and had stayed at the medical center overnight, according to Hosino.
As police look for answers, an anesthesiologist told CBS2/KCAL9's Rachel Kim on Wednesday that adverse effects can sometimes occur from anesthesia and other sedatives, including post-anesthetic psychosis.
Hosino said investigators are talking to medical staff to see if anything out of the ordinary happened.
Investigators are also trying to find out how the woman was able to gain easy roof access.
On Thursday, CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Randy Paige said police have struggled to find the woman's relatives -- they told him she was from outside the United States.
Hosino also told Paige, part of the investigation will be to determine if any criminal negligence was involved.
