Man Killed During Fist Fight In Westlake District
WESTLAKE DISTRICT (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have identified the 46-year-old man who was beaten to death in a fight with another man in the Westlake District early Friday morning, and police arrested the survivor.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of Hartford Avenue at 1 a.m. Friday in response to a report of a domestic dispute, said Lt. Cliff Humphris of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.
According to police, an argument escalated to a physical altercation, during which Julio Nunez Bolanos of Los Angeles was allegedly hit on the head with a metal pipe by a 21-year-old man.
Bolanos died at the scene, and the younger man, identified as Yankel Mejia of Los Angeles, was taken into custody for questioning when he and a woman went to the Rampart Station after the altercation, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman.
Mejia was later arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, said LAPD Officer Mike Lopez. He was being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond, according to online inmate records.
Police have not disclosed what the fight was about.
