Shootings Near West Hollywood Investigated As Murder-Suicide
WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Two shootings just about a mile from each other in the West Hollywood area are being investigated as a murder-suicide.
A shooting was initially reported at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 8700 block of Rosewood Avenue, near Robertson and Beverly boulevards, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Trina Schrader said.
Responding deputies found the woman on the sidewalk of a residential neighborhood, being treated by fire personnel for a gunshot wound to the upper body, Schrader said. The woman, later identified as 25-year-old Whitney Washuta, died at the scene, across the street from the condo she shared with her sister.
Some neighbors said they heard her screaming, "No!" just before the shooting.
"My dad heard the gunshots, my mom heard them, the neighbor heard them, everybody heard them," neighbor Leo Shlomo said.
Just a mile away, LAPD officers found a man who shot himself in his SUV as it was parked about a mile away shortly after the woman was found. He was identified as Kyle Ramsey, 27.
Washuta and Ramsey had been in a relationship and had just broken up two or three weeks ago, according to her sister, who shared an apartment on Rosewood with her.
Ramsey, who was from the South Bay and apparently worked for his family's restaurant business, evidently took the break-up hard, contacting her repeatedly over the past month, stalking her, and even changing his doctor to be with her, the sister told police.
Investigators say Washuta, who never reported any abuse by her ex-boyfriend, was walking her dog on Rosewood when Ramsey ambushed her.
Security video captured images of a car driven by a man dressed similarly to Ramsey before and after Washuta's shooting.
