West Hollywood Declares 'The Doors Day' Honoring The LA-Based Band

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The city of West Hollywood has declared Thursday "The Doors Day" in honor of the Los Angeles-based band.

An all-star band, featuring members of The Doors, will perform at Thursday's opening night of the annual three-day Sunset Strip Music Festival.

The Doors got their start on the Sunset Strip in 1965.

They were the house band at the London Fog night club for a few months the following year.

In August 1966, a performance by the band at Whisky a Go Go helped them land a recording contract with Elektra Records.

The Doors released nine studio albums and 21 singles. The lead vocalist Jim Morrison died in Paris in 1971, at the age of 27.

The three surviving members—keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore—continued to perform together until 1973.
