West Covina Lawmaker Pleads Not Guilty To DUI Charges
WEST COVINA (AP) — A state assemblyman from Southern California has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor counts of drunken driving.
Democratic Assemblyman Roger Hernandez, of West Covina, has previously apologized and said he did not believe he was drunk when police in the eastern San Francisco Bay area city of Concord arrested him in late-March.
He pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving earlier this month and is expected to return to court June 20, Contra Costa County District Attorney spokeswoman Bobbi Spinola said Monday.
Hernandez was driving a state-owned car when he was arrested and has since given up his right to drive state-issued vehicles.
In an interview with The Associated Press earlier this month, Hernandez said he wanted prosecutors to follow normal protocol and did not expect any special treatment.
