Welfare Check Leads Police To Stolen Vehicle Suspect In Malibu
MALIBU (CBS) — A stolen vehicle suspect, who authorities say eluded a massive search by Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies, was arrested in Malibu overnight.
Sheriff's deputies took 44-year-old Michael Kheop into custody following a welfare check at his home in the 22000 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
Investigators say Kheop triggered the manhunt about 1:45 p.m. Friday when he allegedly drove a stolen car over a cliff following a traffic stop.
CBS2's Mike Dinow reported that the Kheop's wife, who was in the passenger seat, was able to jump out of the van before it went down the canyon, according to deputies.
Keoph is expected to be booked on suspicion of attempted murder and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.
