Water Shut Off To 10 Structures In West Hollywood Due To Water Main Break

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A water main break Thursday was affecting multiple structures in West Hollywood.

The incident was reported around 1:25 p.m. at 1201N. Formosa Avenue, near Lexington Avenue.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power shut off the water to five apartment complexes and five commercial buildings, as a large amount of water was reported flowing down Formosa, Los Angeles County Fire officials said.

The Department of Water and Power says it was a 12-inch cast iron main that broke, sending water through the roadway.

KCAL9's Amy Johnson reports there were no evacuation orders despite water getting into at least one underground parking structure and a couple of apartments and businesses.

The fire department says there was no major damage and no injuries were reported.

"We have some significant damage but considering the amount of water that was flowing it has been kept to a minimum," L.A. County Fire Department Captain Jason Hurd said.

Crews remain on the scene to continue clean-up.

Water is expected to remain off for residents in the area between eight and 24 hours.
