Water Main Break Threatens Homes In Tarzana
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A water main break threatened Tarzana residences with flooding tonight.
The break was reported in the 5000 block of Topeka Drive late Thursday evening.
Sky2's Gil Leyvas reported water was being dumped in the area as a result of the break, and could be seen inching up to the front doors of nearby homes.
L.A. City Fire and the L.A. Department of Water and Power are on the scene.
KCAL9's Brittney Hopper spoke with local resident Ed Lucks, whose home saw the most damage.
"This is probably destroyed," he said of his front yard. "It's just the exterior right now but we have to see what the damage is underground - the structure," Lucks said.
Fire crews and the DWP told KCAL9 it took 15 minutes for the water to be shut off. As it gushed into the streets, people sat in their cars waiting to go home.
"It's disturbing because you see your neighbors in distress," resident Natalie Gallmir said.
Lucks is just thankful no one was hurt.
"We have homeowner's insurance. That's what we have it for," he said.
Water is expected to be restored in the area in the next few hours.
The cause of the break remains under investigation.
