Water, Gas Service Expected To Be Restored In Montclair

MONTCLAIR (CBSLA.com) — Roughly 1,000 residents and businesses in Montclair were without gas for a fourth day Friday.

A water leak was first reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Several hours later, crews smelled natural gas and discovered that the water had leaked into a gas line.

Southern California Gas said the leak, which is now fixed, occurred underground at the corner of Central Avenue and Palo Verde Street.

Officials Friday said they were in the process of flushing lines, testing appliances and repairing broken meters.

Crew members were also going door-to-door and clearing out all gas lines before restoring service for individual residences.

The company also provided residents with food and shower vouchers for local 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness gyms.

Justin Scott-Coe of the Monte Vista Water District says 23 customers remain without water service, but that water quality testing is being conducted.

Water is expected to be turned on for affected residents, who were provided with bottled water, by Saturday morning.
