Warren High Student Arrested In Threat Of School Shooting Via Instagram

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — A ninth-grader at Warren High School in Downey was arrested Thursday on suspicion of posting a threat of a shooting over social media, police said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was taken into custody at the campus about 11:45 a.m., Downey police Lt. Mark McDaniel said. He has been since released to his parents.

"After speaking with the juvenile suspect, it was discovered that the threat made over social media was intended as a joke," McDaniel said.

He said there were no other suspects involved and there was no further threat to students or faculty.

Authorities say the social media post threatened a shooting at the campus, 8141 De Palma St., on March 20. The threat was made via Instagram, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

The case will be presented for possible prosecution, McDaniel said.
