Walnut pizza shop owners considering closing after getting burglarized three times in 10 days
A Walnut pizza shop owner says that they've now been burglarized three times in the last 10 days, marring what was otherwise a peaceful four years.
The Curry Pizza Company, which is located at 376 S. Lemon Avenue, says that the same person has broken into their restaurant on each instance, and that they believe he also hit another restaurant and bakery multiple times in the same time span.
Surveillance video shows one of the instances outside of the pizzeria, where the suspect can be seen smashing the front door before running inside, hopping onto the counter and grabbing all that they can from the register.
After three extremely instances in less than two weeks' time, MP Singh is begging for it to stop.
"It hurts, it really hurts," Singh said. "Our employees aren't feeling safe, we're not feeling safe."
The suspect, who arrives at the location riding a bike, made off with $400 the first time and smashed the register the second time. On each instance, the man smashing their front door — which Singh says costs around $700 to fix and isn't covered by insurance.
"When those kind of things happen, when are we gonna pay out of our pocket for the glass, money to buy a new register, when insurance won't cover it," Singh said. "It affects a lot."
Singh said that he recognized the suspect in the videos as a man who lives on the streets nearby, and that just weeks ago they had been giving him leftover food before he suddenly started threatening the employees, once even showing up with a BB gun.
"I don't know what we can do, but we're trying to help each other side," he said. "I don't know why people don't understand we're trying to help somebody out. They gotta help us out and then we can help them out."
