Vocal Coach To Top Recording Artists Keeps Dreams Alive

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line and Emmylou Harris all have their own sound when it comes to country music but have a commonality: Valerie Morehouse.

"There is a method to the madness, and if you want to be great and you want to have a great career and you want to have a good time doing it, you have to put in the work. Period," said Morehouse, a vocal coach to the stars.

She trains entertainers at the Morehouse Vocal Studio in Studio City in various genres from pop to Broadway and country, among others.

"Some of them come here because that's their last resort. Some people come because they have to have surgery. We have to rehab them through that process. Some of them come because they just want to be better. They want to be the best singer on the planet. Everybody is motivated by different reasons," she said.

But Morehouse is motivated by only one thing: keeping dreams alive.

From doctors to teachers, Morehouse has learned from the best in an effort to learn to be a master of the voice and passed that on while in studio or on the road.

Right now, among others, Morehouse is working with three generations of country artists, including Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line and the iconic Emmylou Harris.

Morehouse's coaching is not just for established stars as part of her passion is working with those on the way up, like singer-songwriter Haddon Cord, who just moved from Nashville and has received the support of a mega-producer.

"Really, my dream is to just have a long career. I've been careful in taking my time in this business. Not trying to rush anything," Cord said.

Cord knows the skills she's learning from Morehouse will pay off.

"She is so good with vocal help," Cord said of Morehouse. "It's just fun. It's inspiring. You know, she'll get off Skype with someone awesome and I'm like, 'Oh, my gosh! Tell them Hi!' "

Even though Morehouse likes to stay out of the spotlight, her artists sing her praises.

"It's just a dream job," she said.

Morehouse says the artists treat their voices like instruments and train because they simply love what they do and want to do it for a long time.

She says lessons don't always sound pretty and aren't easy but they make the voice stronger. For more information on Morehouse, her methods and the artists, click here.
