Villaraigosa Lobbies For Transportation Funds On Capitol Hill
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa lobbied for transportation funds on Capitol Hill Thursday.
Villaraigosa testified before a senate committee in support of a bi-partisan transportation bill.
The bill would provide $1 billion in federal funds for local governments that need to improve their infrastructure.
The mayor is hoping to jump-start the local economy by expanding subway, light rail and other transit projects.
He warned that the United States is already behind Europe and China in infrastructure improvements.
He says any cuts in transportation funding would make the financial crisis even worse.
