Vigil Held For Teen Whose Body Was Found Burning On South LA Street
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A candlelight vigil was held Saturday evening for the teen whose body was found burning on 94th street last Monday evening.
Police have still said very little about their investigation.
But almost a week after Terrey Wright was found her family still is mystified and devastated by her violent end.
Bobby Kaple, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, spoke to the girl's stunned and grieving family.
Dozens of friends, family and neighbors turned out for the vigil.
Selamawit Alemayehu says she learned about the death of her 17-year-old daughter Terrey (pronounced Tah-ray) from Los Angeles Police Department detectives.
Alemayehu said her daughter kept in close contact with her family, which includes four sisters and one brother. She said her daughter had planned on joining the Army next year.
Her family remembers her big smile and how loving she was. Said her mother, "Her smile, her memory... they can never be erased."
Alemayehu says she has not slept since her daughter's body was found. "I just toss and turn. I just can't stop thinking of 'Why?'
Wright's sister, DaShawnee Bean said, choking back tears, "I really miss her. She didn't deserve this. She was meant to be at home with us."
Another sister, Imunique Bean, was touched by the large turnout for her sibling. "It means people really cared about her. That's why everybody's crying."
A Facebook page in her honor, "Terrey Wright Rest In Paradise" has 1,015 likes at this writing.
Neighbor Pamela Ford said, "I know my God knows who did this. There will be justice."
