Vigil Held For Missing San Bernardino Resident Sahray Barber
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — It's been 10 days, and there is still no sign of art student Sahray Barber, 22, from San Bernardino County.
Loved ones gathered for a candlelight vigil Thursday night in Victorville at Barber's former high school.
Pastor George Nios addressed the crowd: "We want to keep this not looking back at who Sahray Barber was, but who Sahray is, because we're looking forward to being with her again."
The woman's father, Stephen Barber, told CBS2/KCAL9's Crystal Cruz that he and his wife wanted to be at the vigil but were called in last-minute to the San Bernardino Police Department. He wouldn't divulge what was discussed but says he still has hope his daughter is alive.
Police also wouldn't comment on Thursday's meeting.
Sahray Barber was last seen by her two roommates March 9 while she was leaving for her job at the Art Institute's campus library.
Her cellphone and laptop were found in some bushes at her apartment complex across the street from Cal State San Bernardino.
Police have served a search warrant at her apartment and have also brought in her roommates for questioning.
The roommates did not show up for a vigil for Barber last Friday. Her parents said they have kept their distance.
No arrests have been made.
Barber's father spoke earlier this week at a news conference.
"[It's] very surreal. I never thought I would be standing here, at least under these circumstances," he said, sharing a message he hopes will reach her.
"I know it's got to be rough wherever you're at and whatever is happening. But we love you. We can't wait to see you again," he said.
Her friends describe Barber as someone who loves to laugh and wear her green cape.
She also enjoys acting and starred in a movie filmed by her friend Chris Etheridge.
He shared the video with Cruz, saying, "It's important to keep the investigation going and I want to do that by showing people images of her."
