VIDEO: 'The Players Tribune' With Kobe On His Shoulder Diagnosis
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) - When Derek Jeter launched the online website, "The Players Tribune", his intention was to give athletes the ability to control the message being put out to their fans.
The latest athlete to do this is Kobe Bryant, who today gave us a behind the scenes look at when doctors determined he had torn his rotator cuff.
Team physician Steve Lombardo confirmed the diagnosis and discussed treatment options with an emotional Bryant, including surgery to repair the tear.
Bryant decided he wanted yet another opinion before making any decisions on what to do next.
Kobe injured himself going up for a dunk on Wednesday night's game in New Orleans and struggled in a brief return.
He's scheduled to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday, and a decision is expected at that time.
At this point one option on the table is surgery, which would mean the end to Kobe's season.
Bryant, who was voted as one of the Western Conference's two starting All-Star guards Thursday, has averaged 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 35 games this season after playing just six games during the 2013-14 season.
