Victorville Family Puts On Quite A Show With Halloween Pirate Ship

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — The ship doesn't sail but it does float many boats.

A family in Victorville has put together a must-see tourist attraction right in their front yard — a 24-foot pirate ship complete with goblins, ghosts and buccaneers.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz says it is something your kids will be screaming to see and if past popularity is any indication, plenty of adults will also want to check it out.

"It's a never-ending project that's for sure," Dustin Oloughlin said.

His wife is also an active participant in the project.

"Most kids don't remember the candy they get, but they remember the things that they see," Amy Oloughlin said.

The pirate ship's original bottom was something Oloughlin first saw being offered online for free.

"When he came home with this I was like, 'Are you kidding me? And it just got bigger every year," Amy said.

For the past five years they've been going overboard, literally. Cruz said the couple has been throwing serious money at their ship.

"Realistically, it's in the thousands," Oloughlin said.

This year, there is a faux fire in the front yard. There's also treasure chests and a laundry basket turned crow's nest.

It's definitely something you don't see every day, but it's something people are coming to see from near and far.

"I've had people come and knock on our door. Two days ago someone knocked and asked if they could buy it and we said obviously not," said Amy Oloughlin.
