Ventura Pier Reopens 4 And-A-Half Months After Sustaining Wave Damage

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — The Ventura Pier reopened Saturday, four and-a-half months after it was damaged by huge waves.

On Dec. 11, 20-foot waves from an El Nino-fueled storm lashed the pier's pilings.

The pier lost 20 timber piles and 19 others came loose, according to the city of Ventura. The pier also lost about 40 percent of its steel and wooden bracings.

The pier was originally built in 1872 and was once the largest wooden pier in the country, at 1,958 feet. The steel and timber pier is now 1,535 feet long.
