Ventura Co. Detectives Seek Public's Help In Identifying 1980 Cold Case Victim

WESTLAKE VILLAGE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the victim of a 1980 cold case murder.

According to the Ventura County Cold Case Task Force, an unidentified female was stabbed to death and her body was dumped in the parking lot of Westlake High School on the afternoon June 18, 1980.

"Evidence at the scene suggested that the victim may have been killed at another location and her body moved to the parking lot, possibly because of its remote location at that time," Sgt. Cary Peterson said.

The female, who was four months pregnant at the time of her death, is believed to be Hispanic or Native American and between 15 and 25 years old.

An investigation at the time led to no suspects and the female was never identified.

Investigators now have reason to believe the victim may have been from either the San Fernando Valley or Kern County.

She is described as being 5 feet 2 inches tall, between 110 to 115 pounds, and had extensive dental work, authorities said.

The victim had black shoulder length hair with bleached tips with one eyebrow shaved and the other penciled in.

She was wearing a white short-sleeved top, red corduroy pants and black high heels at the time of her death.

Anyone with information on the victim should call the Ventura County Sheriff's Department at (805) 384-4735.
