Vegas Man Gets Life Sentence For 1985 Murder Of Aspiring Model
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A Las Vegas man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 1985 slaying of an aspiring model.
A Pomona Superior Court jury convicted Stafford Joel Spicer on Oct. 1, of first-degree murder in connection with the death of 23-year-old Joanne Marie Jones.
Jones' decomposing body was discovered on June 8, 1985 by hikers along a dirt roadway in a remote area of Azusa Canyon.
Investigators uncovered DNA evidence after the cold case was reopened in 2009.
Spicer was subsequently arrested at his Las Vegas home in March 2011.
He was convicted of the murder with special circumstance allegations of kidnapping, rape and robbery.
