The damage was reported about 9 p.m. Tuesday along Van Nuys Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Oxnard Street, Los Angeles police Sgt. John Cuenca said.
Affected businesses included several car dealerships and a hair salon. No injuries were reported and there were no arrests.
Police originally went to the scene on a report of "shots fired." Investigators determined that the projectiles were glass marbles, Cuenca said.
