USC, YouTube To Offer Online Filmmaking Courses
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — From the hilariously-catchy "Bed Intruder Song" to the first Oscar-worthy Roger Ebert-endorsed "Man In A Blizzard", video sharing website YouTube has quickly become the latest training ground for would-be filmmakers to have their work seen by the world.
Now the Google-owned company is partnering with USC to launch a new media program series for aspiring digital filmmakers.
The website announced Thursday it would team up with University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts to launch the YouTube Creator Institute.
Both USC and Columbia College Chicago will offer on-campus and online educational courses to its users so they can "hone their digital media skills and accelerate their YouTube careers."
Course work will range from cinematography to social media strategy.
Classes begin in May, with inaugural classes at USC and CCC expected to have 10 students each. Applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old.
YouTube is owned by Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet search leader Google Inc.
