USC Trash Talk Doesn't Concern Notre Dame's Kelly
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Name-calling is the least of Notre Dame's worries these days.
Irish coach Brian Kelly is again downplaying claims by some USC players that Notre Dame "quit" in the final minutes of the Trojans' 31-17 victory Saturday night, saying Tuesday that his players have no room to complain after such a lopsided loss.
The Irish had three turnovers in the second half, including one that killed a potentially game-tying drive. Notre Dame was at the USC 1 late in the third quarter when Dayne Crist fumbled the snap, and the Trojans returned it for a score.
Kelly also says he considered calling a timeout during USC's final drive, which took nearly seven minutes off the clock. But he says the situation on the field was never right for one.
