USC Hopes Barkley Can Play After X-Rays Show No Break
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Southern California coach Lane Kiffin hopes Matt Barkley will play against Notre Dame after X-rays on the quarterback's sprained left ankle showed no broken bones.
Barkley missed the second half of the Trojans' embarrassing 36-7 loss at Oregon State with a high ankle sprain, but Sunday's X-rays improved Kiffin's mood.
Barkley went 10 of 19 for just 75 yards, throwing an interception that was returned 65 yards for a touchdown.
Mitch Mustain finished the game. The senior from Arkansas will start against the Irish if Barkley can't play.
The Trojans have no update from the NCAA on the status of tailback Dillon Baxter, who was left home after accepting a ride in a golf cart from a USC student who might be an agent.
