USC Bans Tailgating After Home Game Falls On A School Night
EXPOSITION PARK (CBSLA.com) — Some USC students are upset by the university's decision to ban tailgating on campus before Thursday night's home game.
For the first time, the university tradition won't be allowed in the area surrounding the L.A. Memorial Coliseum before the Trojans hit the field.
Student Affairs say it's because this is the first time a home game falls on a school night and classes will be in session.
"I'm very upset. It's a lack of school spirit. Part of getting ready for a game is being with everybody," student Patrick Corcoran told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper.
Tailgating will be prohibited from Exposition to Jefferson on the north and from Vermont to Figueroa on the east.
However, it will be permitted south of Exposition down to Martin Luther King Boulevard and from Vermont to Figueroa.
Still, some students say it won't be the same.
"It's going to be a big change because we have a great tradition here," Reggie Wyatt said.
Alumna Valeria Ananias has season tickets and has been tailgating for years. She agrees with the school's decision.
"I mean, this is a university. We go here to get educated and it's a school night and I don't think it's that big of a deal," Ananias said.
USC is expecting a big crowd when the Trojans take on the Arizona Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.
More than 70,000 tickets have reportedly been sold for the game.
