Unemployment Dips In September
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Unemployment throughout the state has dipped in September, according to a report Friday from the state Employment Development Department.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is down to 8 percent in September, down from a revised 8.1 percent in August, EDD officials said. This year's unemployment rate in September is also below the 9.7 percent rate from the same time in 2013.
In Orange County, seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, but the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent, down from 5.4 percent in August.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state was 7.3 percent in September, down from 7.4 percent and below the 8.8 percent rate in September 2013. Comparable estimates for the nation were 5.9 percent in September, 6.1 percent in August and 7.2 percent a year ago.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by 27,900 jobs between August and September to reach nearly 4.2 million.
The biggest month-over-month gain was in the government sector, which added 15,900 jobs.
About 400,000 people were unemployed in September in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce fo about 5 million.
