Undercover Deputies Discover 1,700 Marijuana Plants At Inland Empire Home
OAK HILLS (CBSLA.com) — San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies busted what they called a massive and sophisticated pot growing operation in the Inland Empire Thursday afternoon.
One person was taken into custody after undercover narcotics officers discovered more than 1,700 marijuana plants at a home on Daisy Road near Interstate 15 in Oak Hills.
"Nearly every room, I think with the exception of one bedroom of the house, it's about a 3,200-square-foot house, has been converted into a marijuana grow," said an unidentified deputy.
Authorities seized equipment, including lighting and fan systems, which enabled the suspect or suspects to grow and preserve a huge number of plants.
"We don't too frequently encounter that number of plants," said the deputy.
Investigators said it's believed the growers shipped the pot out for distribution.
The undercover deputy told KCAL9's Tom Wait that they were tipped off to the operation by Edison officials who suspected electricity was being stolen.
"Edison has given a preliminary estimate of $69,000 worth of theft," he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
