UCLA Water Polo Player Accused Of Raping Female Student On Campus
WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A UCLA freshman water polo player has been accused of raping a female student at a campus residence hall last week.
Hakop Jack Kaplanyan, 18, was arrested without incident on April 2 after the alleged victim reported the incident to campus police.
The suspect was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail last Wednesday and has since been released on $200,000 bail.
University officials said Kaplanyan, who is due in court April 25, has been suspended from school.
He tweeted Tuesday:
Kaplanyan, a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, was redshirted during the 2012 season.
Last fall, he was among hundreds of UCLA athletes named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
