UCLA Hires Johnson As Offensive Coordinator
LOS ANGELES (AP) — UCLA has hired Mike Johnson as offensive coordinator, the same position he had this season with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers.
Coach Rick Neuheisel announced the hiring Saturday.
Johnson and Neuheisel will be reunited after working together with the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and 2007, making Johnson one of five Bruins assistants with NFL experience.
Johnson's duties will include coaching the wide receivers, while Neuheisel will coach the quarterbacks. Neuheisel says he will be more hands-on in play calling.
Johnson spent the last two seasons with the 49ers, coaching the quarterbacks. Before working in Baltimore, he spent three years coaching quarterbacks with the Atlanta Falcons, where he tutored Michael Vick. Johnson also coached quarterback Doug Flutie when he was with the San Diego Chargers.
