UCLA Freshman Shabazz Muhammad Is Cleared To Play Basketball

WESTWOOD, Calif. (CBSLA.com) - After sitting out the first three games, freshman sensation Shabazz Muhammad will be eligible to play for the UCLA Bruins basketball team.

"I am excited to be able to play for UCLA starting next Monday," Muhammad said in a statement released by the school. "My family and friends were very supportive of me throughout this process and I couldn't have gone through this without them."

The NCAA said, as part of the settlement,  Muhammad will have to sit ten percent (three games) of the games and repay the $1600 impermissible benefits.

Since he has already sat the three games, Muhammad will be able to make his UCLA debut on Monday against Georgetown.

"The NCAA agreed the actions taken by the university were sufficient," said in a statement released by the NCAA. "Because Muhammad has already sat out three games, he is now eligible to compete."

The case claimed that Muhammad accepted travel and lodging during an unofficial visit to UCLA.

According to NCAA rules, student-athletes cannot receive any benefits based on their athletic ability.
