2 UCLA Campus Attacks Have School Community On Edge
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Authorities are investigating two separate attacks which occurred on the UCLA campus over the past week; one in which an employee suffered serious head injuries and a second in which a student was sexually battered.
Investigators do not believe the same suspect is responsible for both attacks.
The first attack occurred on Nov. 27 at about 2:20 a.m., according to campus police.
A UCLA employee was struck in the back of the head and was hospitalized with a serious head injury and body pain, police said. The exact location of the attack and a possible motive was not disclosed.
The second incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on Dec. 3. A shirtless man grabbed a female student as she was walking behind the Covel Steps. The suspect then fled in a gray four-door sedan. That suspect was caught on surveillance video.
Students who spoke to CBS2 Wednesday complained as to why campus police waited until Tuesday to alert the school community about the first attack.
"No notification about whether anything or not was taken, not much information on whether or not there was an assailant," student Dan Jacobs said. "There's no description, there's no footage, so at the moment, it's just, be diligent."
The suspect in the first attack was described as black, about 6 feet tall wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. No surveillance video of him was released.
The suspect in the sexual battery was described as black, 23 to 28 years old, light skinned with a thin build, short black braided hair and wearing khaki or gray colored pants. The suspect had tattoos around his torso.
