UberX Begins Passenger Pickups At LAX
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More transportation options were available Thursday to passengers traveling home from Los Angeles International Airport.
At 8 a.m., UberX drivers began picking up passengers from the upper departures level only at curbside signs in front of each terminal marked "Ride Service," according to Los Angeles World Airports officials.
Uber Black, Uber SUV and Uber Luxe drivers, who use vehicles that are commercially licensed, used the lower arrivals level to pick up and drop off travelers.
"We are bringing LAX passengers what they have been asking for - better access to reliable, convenient transportation from the airport," said Mayor Eric Garcetti. "[These] options expand dramatically with the arrival of UberX."
The San Francisco-based will pay the airport a $4 fee per trip. The surcharge, which is similar to fees paid by other airport transportation providers, is used to maintain roadways and reduce traffic congestion in the central terminal area.
"We are thrilled to help simplify and modernize the airport travel experience with the launch of UberX ride service pickups at LAX," said Christopher Ballard, General Manager of Uber Southern California. "Angelenos asked and Mayor Garcetti and city leaders listened."
Following Lyft's authorization on Dec. 23, 2015, UberX has become the second rideshare provider that is allowed to legally pickup passengers at LAX.
