Man Rescued, 2 Dogs Killed In Simi Valley House Fire
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA) – One man was rescued but two dogs were killed in a two-alarm house fire which erupted in a Simi Valley neighborhood early Thursday morning.
The blaze was reported in the 3300 block of Shenandoah Avenue at about 5 a.m. Ventura County Fire Department crews arrived on scene to find heavy flames coming from the back of the home.
Firefighters rescued one man who was trapped in the backyard. Two dogs were found dead, however.
Crews has to contend with flames burning in hard to reach areas of the home, the fire department said. The blaze was brought under control by 5:50 a.m.
Firefighters were expected to remain on scene for several hours to monitor for hot spots and conduct salvage operations.
The cause and circumstances of the fire were unknown. It's unclear how many people were in the home when the fire broke out. The Red Cross was assisting two people with temporary housing.
