Trump's Call To Stop Muslims From Entering US Met With Mixed Reviews In Inland Empire

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — After news spread that Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump called for "a total and complete shutdown of all Muslims" entering the U.S., some Inland Empire residents said the plan was "ridiculous" while others said they agreed with the proposal.

Trump's latest idea certainly has a county divided and many weren't afraid to voice their opinions, including those who wholly supported the Republican frontrunner.

"You've got to be able to say 'wrong is wrong.' And if it hurts you, I'm sorry. But if you're wrong, stop being wrong," Linda Moore of Riverside said. "If that hurts you, I'm sorry. I don't get it. What other religion has it so that to gain things you kill people? ... We've got to be safe. So, you're going to have to wait. We're going to have to check you out. If you have a problem with that, you're off the list."

But other residents felt his proposal went too far.

"I don't agree that we should not let any Muslims in the county," Riverside resident Pamela Webber said. "I just believe we have to be more careful."

Shannon Webber agreed: "You can't really control that anyways because they can come from anywhere," she said.

Some even compared the idea to racial profiling.

"Saying one race is more dangerous than a particular race, to assume that one is more dangerous than any other is ridiculous to me," Jesse Gomez of Riverside said.

Still, others said they could see why Trump has said what he said.

Gilbert Martinez said he thinks Trump's proposal could help fight terrorism.

"Terrorism -- I mean, when you speak of a Middle-Eastern, or somebody Muslim or something like that, that's the first thought that comes to your head," he said.

One resident suggested that anyone who comes into the country should offer up their social media accounts and private information so that way they can show even more proof that they are who they say they are.
