Trucker Badly Burned In Crash On 110 Freeway Near Gardena
GARDENA (CBS) — Authorities Saturday said a trucker was badly burned after his vehicle crashed over the side of a freeway transition road and landed on a Harbor (110) Freeway offramp near Gardena.
The crash ignited a fire that extended into a small grass fire near the 190th Street offramp, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department said. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 12:02 p.m.
"He (the trucker) was on fire himself. He definitely has some burns," California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jacobs said.
The motorist was on the transition road from the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway to the San Diego (405) Freeway when he lost control of the vehicle. It then hit the guard rail, went off the transition road and landed on the 190th Street offramp, Jacobs said.
