Triple Shooting In San Pedro Leaves 1 Teen Critically Injured

SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — A teenage victim remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday from injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred in a shopping plaza last night.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division, officers were sent around 10:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a large crowd that needed to be dispersed in the 1090 block of North Western Avenue near Capitol Drive.

Once on scene, witnesses reported that three teenagers had been shot. Officers said they only found shell casings located at the scene.

All three victims were transported by a private vehicle to a hospital for treatment.

Two victims were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

A third victim was hit in the chest and remains listed in critical condition at UCLA, however, is expected to live.

At this time, officers have not released information regarding the gender of the victims, however, they are reportedly 19-years-old, 17-years-old and 15-years-old.

KCAL9's Joy Benedict spoke with officers to reveal more information regarding the nature of the crime.

Authorities did say there was a large crowd of about 500 people in the area that hung out in a parking lot of a shopping plaza after a football game between San Pedro High School and Banning High School.

Officials said the area has become a popular hang out spot located near the school due to fast food restaurants in the plaza that are open until late hours of the evening.

It was unclear if the victims were high school students, or were just attending the game.

There is a chance the shooting may be gang related, officials said.

Police described a suspect as a Hispanic male that was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt during the crime.
