Trial Continues For Man Accused Of Killing Cori Desmond, 28
SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — Testimony resumed Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of killing a 28-year-old woman from South Bay.
Cori Desmond was last seen leaving a Redondo Beach bar back in February 2009. Her Jeep Wrangler was located not far away, but her body was found dumped off Highway 330 near Running Springs.
The alleged killer, identified as Tony Lopez-Perez, could get life in prison if convicted.
"He's pretty much, as far as I'm concerned, a waste of space. Anybody that would do what he did doesn't ever deserve to be released," Mark Desmond, Cori's father, told CBS2's Greg Mills.
He, along with other relatives and friends, were advised to leave the courtroom Tuesday when graphic pictures were shown to the jurors.
Desmond told Mills he didn't mind leaving because he didn't want to appear emotional in front of jurors, but told prosecutors he wants to see everything once the trial is over.
On the witness stand, investigators were questioned regarding grainy security camera video from inside and outside the bar where Desmond was last seen.
Also, a crime scene specialist showed where blood stains were found on a Dodge Durango that belonged to Perez.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.
