Tree Uproots, Falls Onto House In North Hills
NORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities were investigating what caused a tree to fall on top of a home in North Hills on Thursday.
Shortly after 2 a.m., firefighters were sent to a home located in the 16600 block of Dearborn Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon their arrival, authorities located a tree had uprooted and fell onto the home.
The Caceres family, who is currently renting the house, said the noise of the crash woke them up in the middle of the night.
"It was just really loud," said Jenny Caceres. "We thought it was an earthquake, but then we realized it was a tree."
Authorities said the roof sustained significant damage as a result of the crash.
At this time, the size of the tree remains unclear.
While strong winds blew across the Southland this morning, authorities have not yet determined what caused the tree to fall.
City officials remain concerned the tree may roll off of the home and into the street. Crews are expected to remove it later today as it's roots grew on a sidewalk in front of the home.
No injuries have been reported.
