Several Suspicious Tree Fires Break Out In North Hollywood
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) – Firefighters Thursday morning extinguished a series of tree fires that erupted in a North Hollywood neighborhood.
Four fires were reported in the area of Irvine Avenue and Califa Street, near Oxnard Street, between 5:35 a.m. and 5:53 a.m., according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman. The fires spread to six cars before crews knocked down the flames. There were no reported injuries.
Security video obtained from a neighbor appeared to show a person setting one of the fires and then fleeing. LAPD and LAFD arson detectives were investigating.
Neighbor Shawn Keehne said she was awokened to the sound of car alarms and the smell of smoke.
"You could feel the heat, and you could hear it, it was pretty loud," Keehne said. "And of course, it was arcing where you could see the embers coming over."
Anyone with information was asked to call the LAFD Arson Section at 213-893-9800.
