Investigation Underway After Claremont House Catches Fire Following Explosion

CLAREMONT (CBSLA) — An investigation is underway into an explosion believed to have led to a disastrous house fire in Claremont Monday.

Crews responded to the scene in the 220 block West 12th St. around 3 p.m.

SKY9 was overhead, where a home could be seen engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished a short time later.

Ron Podojil says his home is a total loss. He purchased his property about 10 years ago and re-did everything inside. Now, he's just trying to figure out what happened.

"I was there all weekend and never saw anything out of the ordinary," he said.

Investigators believe the fire started in the rear of the house and say the explosion was so powerful the windows of Podojil's home, as well as another nearby, were blown out.

Neighbors say they're lucky firefighters responded quickly and kept the flames away from other homes.

No injuries were reported.
