Tomas homers in Diamondbacks' 7-4 loss to Dodgers

Arizona manager Chip Hale, bench coach Glenn Sherlock and two Diamondbacks pitchers were ejected during a 7-4 loss Monday to Los Angeles in spring training.

Right-hander Allen Webster and Hale were tossed after Dodgers utilityman Justin Turner was hit by a pitch for the second time in the fifth inning. Derek Eitel was thrown out for hitting Dillon Moyer with a pitch in the eighth, and then Sherlock got tossed.

In the first inning, Dodgers starter Chris Anderson hit Mark Trumbo with a pitch.

Hale said he spoke to first base umpire Bill Miller about the ejections. Miller, he said, knew about the history between the teams, which included a brawl in 2013 in Los Angeles and Dodgers players leaping into a pool at Arizona in September of that same year.

"I know Bill was worried about the history of the two teams," Hale said. "I know he's a good umpire. I've known Bill for years. I think he didn't want anything to get out of hand."

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Anderson did not target Trumbo.

"Whatever they want to say, I know our kid wasn't trying to hit Trumbo," Mattingly said. "I know that — intentionally — nothing was going on.

"We're not going to start that, especially in spring training. I think Chris was a little amped up and he let a couple get away in there."

Trumbo and Turner were OK. Trumbo was struck on the hands.

"I was very worried," Hale said. "Mark has got off to a great start. Last thing we need is for him to hurt his hand. He got out of there pretty good and it just grazed it."

Turner, who also was hit by Daniel Hudson in the first, said some of the Diamondbacks were upset at Anderson.

"They were like, 'Come on, let's go. That's too many pitches up and in,'" he said.

Arizona slugger Yasmany Tomas hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and finished with three hits. Tomas connected against reliever Chin-hui Tsao, tying it at 4.

It was the second spring homer for Tomas, a third baseman and outfielder from Cuba who agreed to a $68.5-million contract, six-year contract in December.

With starter Brandon McCarthy working a minor league game on an adjacent field at Camelback Ranch, the Dodgersopted for a bullpen day.

Los Angeles shortstop Jimmy Rollins hit an RBI triple in the third and scored on Turner's sacrifice fly. The Dodgers also scored three runs in the eighth.

STARTING TIME

The Dodgers were awaiting an update on starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu late Monday. Ryu was in Los Angeles to see team physician Dr. Neal Attrache about discomfort in his left shoulder.

Ryu, Los Angeles' No. 3 starter last year, is expected to begin this season on the disabled list.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Dodgers: LHP Erik Bedard is expected to miss four to six weeks because of a strained muscle in his back. He got hurt on Friday against Texas and had an MRI Monday. Bedard, who agreed to a minor league contract in January, was 4-6 with a 4.76 ERA in 17 appearances for Tampa Bay last season.

Diamondbacks: Yoan Lopez gets his first start Tuesday against the Brewers in Scottsdale. Lopez, a Cuban right-hander who agreed to an $8.25 million deal on Jan. 17, has made three appearances. Over 6 2-3 innings, the 21-year-old right-hander has given up four runs and seven hits.

Dodgers: Los Angeles is off on Tuesday. Six relievers are expected to work Wednesday against the Padres at Camelback Ranch. Clayton Kershaw, who had to have some dental work after he got hit in the mouth by a line drive in his last outing, is on track for his fifth spring start Thursday against the White Sox.
